- SPAM is unsolicited e-mail that's sent out in bulk to unsuspecting computer users whose e-mail addresses have been compromised!
- Your e-mail address is either guessed or harvested by SPAMers when you've been careless with your e-mail address or you've opened and/or responded to a SPAM e-mail. You may have to change your e-mail address to a not-trivial one.
- It's estimated that SPAM email makes up to 73% of global emails and cost businesses $20 billion annually.
- Use of a SPAM filter on your computer may hide the fact that your e-mail address has already been compromised. Not all Internet Service Providers (ISP) use effective SPAM filters. Find one that does and switch to them.
- Use two e-mail addresses: A "secret" one for personal use and a "throw away" one for public (registering, etc.) use.
- Remember that most SPAM is sent without your knowledge to friends and neighbors via infected computers. Take steps to protect your computer and everyone in your address book.
- Never, Never, Never, Never, Never open or respond to an e-mail that looks suspiciously like it's from a SPAMer! You'll just confirm that your e-mail address is valid.
